An MDM Props project, this giant bird was made for the 50 year celebration event of the UAE in Dubai. The idea was that the performer would create an origami bird and as the revolving stage turned, she would throw it up into the air and it would “transform” into a 15 metre hawk. Working with other prop makers at MDM, I collaborated with a colleague to realise the fabric element which included complex patterns and over 50 feathers. I was responsible for making the head. The whole structure had to be very light so that it could be animated by 2 puppeteers on stage.
