This was one of 3 hats designed and made for Carol Smillie to wear appearing in the Ideal Home Show national advertising campaign. The themes were Homes, Gardens and Shopping. The house hat was made entirely from fabric using embroidery techniques and specially selected fabrics including a very expensive devoré which made for the perfect pebbled pathway. The adverts appeared on London buses, tube trains, bill-boards and national magazines for the Daily Mail Group.
This hat was made using card and hand-made bespoke miniature items including hand-printing wallpaper, turning small spindles for the chair back and lamp-stand as well as modelling curtain pole ends.
This hat was made using real flowers which were meticulously graded in size and colour to allow them to fit snugly around the watering can body, handle and spout as well as giving a beautiful ombré effect which also acted as a highlight on the can.
