“Dan, it’s simply fantastic. Everyone loved it. It’s a real asset to the station. So glad we got you on board. Has been an absolute pleasure to work with you.”

The brief was to create an art installation incorporating a model railway to celebrate 90 years of the Piccadilly line running through the station. I researched the local area, history and architecture and as the station was built in 1933, I decided to use Art Deco as the theme. With steam trains originally running through the station, we elected to have 2 model trains: one steam and one electric representing the different eras. The 2m long lampshade complements these by depicting the transformation of the Hounslow area from rural landscape to urban town centre. Using the Art Deco poster style, I illustrated the countryside, local Art Deco buildings and trains from the different eras. Upper panels were installed portraying the sky with both modern and heritage planes giving a nod to Heathrow Airport nearby.
The model railway was provided with the kind assistance of the Twickenham and District Model Railway Club.
“Really great to have worked with Dan on the heritage ticket office kiosk at Hounslow West which she has transformed into a focal point with her amazing artwork. The level of detail and research she has undertaken to devise a uniquely relevant design for us is only surpassed by the stunning quality and impact of the finished product. It’s been a real pleasure to work with her.”
